Your voice deserves to be heard at City Hall.
Prop F will give the Mayor of Austin too much power. With a veto over everything, our community’s voices will be silenced. This controversial proposal is undemocratic, and a Trojan horse that will give the wealthy and well-connected more power.
Instead of passing new laws and regulations by consensus, the new form of city government will give the Mayor the power to veto any measure passed by the city council and overturn the will of the majority. That undermines our democratic values.
FIGHTER FOR AIRPORT WORKERS
This misleading proposal is designed to take power away from voters and our elected council, and putting it in the hands of fewer people.
Austin doesn’t need an all powerful mayor, we’ve seen in the last four years what happens when the person in power is dangerous. We value checks and balances; we are opposed to authoritarianism.
Champion for City/County Employees
We oppose these charter amendments because they aren't genuine democratic reform; each is part of a strategy designed by a small group of people to concentrate power into fewer hands at a time when wealthy elites are flocking to our city.
Ambulance First Responder
Labor organizations, representatives for the Eastern Crescent of Austin, and criminal justice advocates strongly oppose Strong Mayor. I know I will be on the side of those doing the work.
Activist for Laborers
It took decades for the people of Austin to pass a representational city government that empowers people of color, lifts up voters in every corner of our city, and put an end to a system built on racism with the passage of 10-1.
